Less than one-quarter (24%) of children 6-17 years of age participate in 60 minutes of physical activity every day, although that is the recommended minimal physical activity. (CDC, 2022)
Physical inactivity leads to energy imbalances, risk of physical disorders, decreased mood and mood disorders, and decreased self-esteem. (CDC, 2022)
Adolescents need the opportunity to be provided engaging and enjoyable physical activities that they can participate in to help provide muscle-strength, bone-strength, and develop aerobic mental-physical connections. (CDC, 2022)
Students who are physically active tend to have better grades, increased school attendance, cognitive performance, and classroom behaviors. (CDC, 2022)
Overall, more than 20% of students in high school are chronically absent. This statistics continues to increase as you consider students experiencing adversity, such as trauma, mental or physical health challenges, and difficulty family dynamics (U.S. Department of Education, 22016).
Our goal is that our residents would be able to receive safe and effective mental health care, while being able to remain consistent in their educational learning.
The Rosemary Tree offers online learning supplemented by class instructors and a tutor.
We understand the impact of food on mental health and we seek to incorporate the whole individual as a part of healing, this includes nutrition.
“Less than 40% of adolescents in the United States meet the U.S. dietary guidelines for saturated fat or fiber and almost 80% of adolescent females do not consume enough calcium, impacting their overall development.” (Dash, 2024)
We have a registered dietician with us that works to create an individualized meal plan to address the specific needs of the adolescent.
More than a meal plan, we offer education on food and nutrition and how that impacts the whole being.
Additionally, our staff has been trained in how to engage adolescents in healthy eating behaviors and language.
Adolescents experience better outcomes when their families are engaged in their care and treatment. For children and youth in residential treatment, appropriate family engagement is more than visitation. It includes an intentional and articulated vision for partnership and shared decision-making. The team at the Rosemary Tree are committed to transparent and inculsive communication with the families and will help you navigate every step of the process.
