Each member will receive group, individual, and family care. We have a daily virtual check-in, where we can monitor the child’s self-reported emotion presentation, level of engagement, and notate any concerns to be addressed right at the beginning of our sessions. Each client is assigned an individual therapist, who provides them with weekly one-on-one check-in sessions, and will schedule family sessions to offer personalized support. Each week we focus on a specific theme related to supporting clients through personal goals, emotion regulation, and interpersonal skills. We explore the theme together in an engaging, experiential way which includes creative modalities such as art, nature, animals, and play.
Members are expected to attend group 8.5 hours a week. On Monday and Tuesday they will attend from 3:30-6:30PM, with parents joining on Tuesdays from 5-6:30PM. On Thursdays, members will come from 3:30 and leave a bit earlier, at 6PM.
What therapeutic modalities are used (e.g., CBT, DBT, art therapy)?
We use a variety of evidence-based and creative modalities such as DBT, ACT, CBT, Expressive art Therapy, Nature-based therapy, and Restorative family therapy.
How is the program tailored to address the unique needs of adolescents?
Our Teen Intensive Outpatient Program was created both out of a need in the community and our love of working with adolescents and their families. Adolescents are on a journey towards understanding themselves and their place in the world- add challenges with mental health into the mix and it can feel like your family has been turned upside down. We create an environment that is supportive to the unique difficulties adolescents face, such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, acting out, and trauma. We engage, not only the child, but the entire family in healing.
Our philosophy is that your child exists in a larger system outside of themselves. Research and experience have shown long lasting change takes place when the entire family engages in healing.
Often we have teens who are hesitant or nervous to start, but once they make it to their first session, they are embraced by a welcoming, authentic, and participative group, and want to keep coming back.
Our goal is not only clinical excellence, but creating an environment that makes teens WANT to participate and keep coming back.
What qualifications and experience do the therapists and staff have?
We have a passionate, collaborative, and experienced team who enjoy the work they get to do by providing care to adolescents. Each session will always have at least two staff members present. Each of our therapists have received a Bachelors degree in a related field and are either an intern within their Masters degree or have completed their masters and appropriate therapeutic licensing (LAC, LPC, LAMFT, LMFT). Many of our staff are specifically trained in additional modalities such as expressive art therapy, EMDR, play therapy and sensorimotor therapy.
How are staff trained to work with adolescents specifically?
Everyone on our team gets trained in The Rosemary Tree Vision, child/adolescent safety and procedures, treatment planning and progress.
How is the family involved in the treatment process?
Family structure and support is a vital part of an adolescent's growth and healing. On Tuesdays, parents participate from 5:00 - 6:30PM. We rotate every other week to host a parent’s group to offer skills related to the weekly theme and family group, where parents and teens are together. We also schedule family sessions throughout the child’s time in IOP.
Are there family therapy sessions or parent education components?
Yes, we value the healing of your child and understand that healing within the family system is a major component to their sucess, so we will plan for family sessions when it's determined that's what the child is needing in order for them to meet their goals. In addition, the parents will have plenty of opportunities to receive psychoeducation and learn tools for themselves as well. Knowledge is power, and we want to empower all parts of the family system for your collective success.
What role will I, as a parent, play in supporting my child’s progress?
Our program is structured around the entire family system receiving support, growth, and healing. Therefore, parents play a vital and necessary role in the child’s progress. Participating in the weekly family/parent groups and remaining engaged in communication is the largest way parents can contribute. We encourage all family members to do “their own work,” and we work to foster an environment where it is safe for all to do so.
How is my child’s treatment plan developed and personalized?
Before starting IOP, our therapists will meet with your family for an intake session. We will get a comprehensive history of your child and family and the unique needs you have. From here, we create a specific treatment plan focused on your child’s growth and development goals. Once your child has begun IOP, we track daily progress in group and individual sessions and meet weekly as a team to discuss each client’s current presentations and collaborate on how to care best for your child.
How is progress tracked and communicated to parents?
Once your child has begun IOP, we track daily progress in group and individual sessions and meet weekly as a team to discuss each client’s current presentations and collaborate on how to care best for your child. We communicate frequently with parents, as we see their engagement, understanding, and support as vital to the child’s healing. Therefore, we provide weekly emails to the parents that includes information on the week’s theme, activities for the week, questions to engage your child, and specific comments on your child’s presentations and engagement for the week. We will often reach out additionally regarding family sessions or any additional needs that require more urgent or specific communication.
What outcomes should we expect from this program?
The outcome of treatment depends significantly on a child’s willingness. As well, each treatment plan is personalized to address your child's needs, so goals and outcomes may look different for each person. Generally, our program's structure focuses on increased emotional awareness and improvement of emotional regulation by introducing and practicing coping skills, decreasing symptoms of mental health disorders or risk behaviors, strengthening self-image and worth, enhancing family communication, and improving social skills and functioning.
How does the program ensure the emotional and physical safety of participants?
We have a thorough screening process prior to entering our program, where we assess your child’s mental, emotional and physical health. This provides an understanding of their current needs and helps identify any potential concerns, where additional or higher levels of care are needed. We continue to assess this every session as they continue throughout the program. Our program is facilitated by licensed therapists and supervisors who maintain close monitoring of each member and create a safe and respectful therapeutic environment, where trust is established among the group and staff and group guidelines are maintained.
What measures are in place to address crises or emergencies?
We work with you to ensure your child’s safety. It’s our priority to ensure your child is safe and their care is of the highest quality, which is why we work with a team of more than one therapist. If there’s a question or concern about your child’s ability to remain safe, we will always involve the appropriate adults and/or authorities to ensure their wellbeing.
What are the program’s hours, and how does it accommodate school schedules?
The group takes place after school hours: Monday and Tuesday from 3:30-6:30PM and Thursday from 3:30-6PM.
Is the program offered in person, virtually, or in a hybrid format?
The program is offered in-person, as we utilize many experiential, nature, and art supported therapy best utilized in an in-person setting.
Where is the program located, and is transportation available?
Our group is located at our outpatient location: 1102 E. Missouri Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85021. Transportation is the responsibility of the adolescent and their guardians.
What aftercare options or resources are provided once the program is completed?
Each child is unique, therefore the support in transition may look different depending on the individual. Our team meets weekly to discuss each member’s progress and discharge planning. We consider the client’s specific circumstances and offer recommendations and referrals. We typically suggest the client continue to see an established individual or family therapist and may recommend the Teen DBT Group as a soft transition. The client will experience frequent communication and activity to prepare for discharge, in individual sessions and within the group.
Does the program address co-occurring issues like substance abuse or learning disabilities?
Although we do not address substance abuse or learning disabilities directly, we will address the client’s underlying factors, which at times contribute to co-occurring issues. We will often provide referrals for our families where there are co-occurring disorders and ensure they receive adequate treatment from those that specialize in that area.
How does the program support emotional regulation and social skill-building?
Our program is heavily focused on emotional regulation and social-skill building. One of the modalities we focus on in our group sessions is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which provides specific skills to support an individual’s ability to tolerate distress, regulate their emotions, grow in mindfulness, communicate, and grow their interpersonal skills.
Does the program accept insurance, and what documentation will I need to provide?
Yes! We accept BCBS. We’ll need the front and back of your insurance card. We will contact your insurance to see what they provide. We recommend you call your insurance company as well to verify your coverage.
Are there any financial assistance options available?

Can you share testimonials or success stories from past participants and their families?
"With incredible compassion for the inner lives of teens, the therapists at Rosemary Tree connected deeply with our daughter. Throughout their program they guided her towards embracing her inner strength, breaking free from unhealthy thoughts, building healthy relationships and engaging more fully in day-to-day life. By working with the whole family, they not only helped our daughter heal, but helped all of us by shining a light on past patterns and illuminating new ways to listen and relate to one another. We will be forever grateful for their insights, guidance, and support." -- Parents of Former IOP Client
