This intensive level of care isn't a starting point. It’s a bridge for when traditional methods haven't quite met your family’s needs.
Jason explains that this program is typically designed for kiddos experiencing:
School Refusal: The anxiety of the school day has become an impassable barrier.
Treatment-Resistant Depression: You’ve tried medication and it’s not working; you’ve tried individual or group therapy and haven’t seen progress.
Transitions: Your kid has just been discharged from a residential treatment center and needs a step-down process from 24/7 care.
If any of these resonate, this program may provide the immersive environment your child needs to shift from simply surviving to thriving.
The Rosemary Tree’s Adolescent PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) offers a powerful path to healing for teens who need more than weekly therapy, without the need for overnight stays.
This five-day-a-week program provides 20+ hours of therapeutic care, blending clinical excellence with creative, play-based modalities that teens actually connect with. We guide them through emotional highs and lows using evidence-based practices like DBT, EMDR, and family systems therapy, all in a setting that feels more like a supportive community than a clinical environment.

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers a structured, intensive mental health treatment option foradolescents. Operating five days a week, PHP provides the support of a hospital program without overnightstays. It helps clients balance recovery with daily life, promoting independence and resilience.
Participants receive at least 20 hours of care weekly, including personalized therapy for the individual and family, academic guidance, and psychiatric support. Our program utilizes a variety of modalities including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), family systems, and trauma-informed care (EMDR).
The program fosters a sense of community, where clients connect and support each other in their journey to recovery. We ensure a smooth transition to less intensive services, like our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), to support long-term recovery and independence.
Our program is catered to teens and adolescents who are facing the following:
Anxiety
Depression
Trauma
Emotional disregulation

Structured support beyond what outpatient therapy provides

Summer often brings a sense of relief for families. Schedules open up, school demands pause, and there is more room to relax. But for many adolescents, the loss of structure can also create a sense of disconnection, boredom, or restlessness.
What begins as a break can quickly shift into long days without direction, inconsistent routines, and reduced motivation. For families navigating this transition, keeping teens engaged summer months can feel more challenging than expected.
This is where adolescent mental health and family dynamics often begin to shift.
For parents seeking adolescent therapy, understanding how to support engagement without creating pressure can make a meaningful difference in how the summer unfolds.
While summer offers freedom, it also removes many of the structures adolescents rely on.
During the school year, adolescents are supported by built-in structure:
Set schedules
Social interaction
Academic expectations
External accountability
When that structure is removed, many adolescents struggle to replace it on their own. This can lead to:
Decreased motivation
Increased screen time
Irregular sleep patterns
Emotional ups and downs
The National Institute of Mental Health notes that changes in routine and structure can impact adolescent mental health, especially when combined with stress or emotional challenges:
https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/child-and-adolescent-mental-health
Without some level of intentional structure, it is common for both mood and engagement to decline.
When adolescents become disengaged, the impact is rarely limited to the individual. It often affects the entire household.
Parents may notice:
Short or reactive communication
Resistance to participation in activities
Increased isolation
Frustration around expectations
In response, parents may try to step in by creating structure, encouraging activities, or setting limits. While well-intentioned, this can sometimes lead to tension if adolescents feel controlled rather than supported.
This is where a family systems therapy adolescents approach becomes helpful. It allows families to understand how each response contributes to the overall dynamic, and how to shift patterns in a more collaborative way.
A family systems perspective highlights how behavior is shaped within relationships and routines over time:

One of the most effective ways to support adolescents during the summer is to focus on engagement rather than productivity.
Instead of asking, “How can I keep them busy?” a more helpful question is, “How can I help them feel interested, connected, and supported?”
This might include:
Creating a loose daily rhythm rather than a strict schedule
Encouraging activities that allow for creativity or exploration
Involving adolescents in decision-making about their time
Prioritizing shared experiences and connection
Approaches grounded in trauma informed family therapy emphasize emotional safety and regulation, which can help adolescents feel more open and engaged rather than pressured.
Research shows that when families are involved in supportive and structured ways, adolescents are more likely to stay engaged and experience improved outcomes:

If your adolescent is struggling to stay engaged or emotionally balanced during the summer, it may be helpful to consider what level of support is appropriate.
